You ever wondered why famous movies star and celebrities fell for grace to grass? Or how an extrovert suddenly turn to a timid person? There might be lot of reasons for this, but the most common is critics and misjudgment of others and in some cases it can leads to depression.
Depression is one of the causes of deaths of teenagers and adults these days, they began to have self pity and self condemnation of themselves, they felt like inferior to their mates, some might just be delusions instigated by their thoughts but mostly it’s societal critics, expectations and pressure.
Teenagers with the mindset of impressing others always find it hard to live their life completely, at a single step, they will start thinking “what will my friend think”? “What will my neighbor thinks”? Yes this may not be all bad, but it should not be implied in all the steps you take in life.. It’s your life and you should be the best judge of your actions, when others critics and judgement starts clouding what you think of yourself, that breeds self condemnation and low self esteem, which is also the expressway to depression..
The society we all live in today is harsh on youths and teenagers because there are people out there who love doing what they love and what makes them happy, societal critics should be listened to a certain limit, there’s no way you won’t be critics by strangers or your neighbors.
Some days ago, a friend told me “you shouldn’t do this, first impression matters most, I laughed when he told me, actually first impression does really matters, but it’s to a certain extend “do I have to do what makes me sad because I want to impress others”? Yes that’s exactly what I mean!! You are living in a world that there’s no satisfaction, and there’s absolutely nothing you can do to impress those around you, that’s not because you not trying to but because we all have different mindset, what pleases taye might annoy Kehinde, If you please taye and Kehinde together it might annoy Idowu, that’s what you should know.
As a twin, I’ve always been compared to my twin sister, she was everything I wasn’t, playful, extrovert and interactive
My parents always reprimand me to copy some of her habits , that I was too grumpy and all, haha funny! I know, then I started talking to people too, laughing at anything funny and all, then it became awkward, I figured out I don’t really like being the center of attraction and all the smiles and laugh was fake, but I still continue because I want to please my parents, then it came to a point that I couldn’t do it anymore, I became more grumpy and sad while my sister enjoyed all the attention from everyone, slowly I began to discover that she was doing what makes her happy and she was doing it in her own way and that was why people love her. Then I stopped dropped the facade, I talk to those who talk to me, laugh with those who laughed with me.. slowly I became and controlled and outspoken person.
This is what got me writing about critics and misjudgment , once again everyone has a different mindset and you cannot control what others thinks of you, the best you can do is stay in your lane and main your peace of mind.
Remember you are living for yourself! You are the only one that knows what’s best for you, you are the only that can make yourself happy… and let’s not forget that grave is self contained whether you please others or you please yourself you are gonna be buried alone and then all they could wish you will only be Rest In Peace, Why don’t you seek that peace now!! Live yourself! Be yourself and make yourself happy!!
